Speech by Gov Al Makura of Nasarawa State on Rural Electrification

> It is with gratitude to Almighty God that I address you today on the occasion of the Commissioning of the Adogi-Assakio Rural Electrification Project.

The Governor of Nasarawa state in  a holistic approach  to tackle with  the  high degree of infrastructural decay and near-absence of basic facilities in urban centres and rural areas has reiterated his administration determination in addressing the obvious infrastructural deficiencies, which situation has continued to retard the development prospects of the State.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura at the commissioning of Adogi-Assakio electrification project marking his second year of assuming  office said the project is    imperative to the development of any state ,Adding that  his Administration did not hesitate to commit resources into the provision of road networks in Lafia, the State Capital and other urban centres across the State.  Similarly, Government has made tremendous investment in the area of electricity supply to our urban and rural communities.  In this regard, we have so far procured and installed thirty-eight (38) electricity transformers to boost power supply in Lafia and other cities across the State.
“We are also collaborating with the Federal Government under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) to develop a 330KV and 132KV power distribution injection transmission sub-station in Lafia,The Governor buttress that the Farin Ruwa Hydro-Power project is also receiving attention, considering the quantum of funds expended on the project by Government over the years.

” It is our desire to complete the project thereby stimulating industrial growth for the benefit of our people.  It is pertinent to state that our rural communities are not left out in this regard,I need to add that our robust policy on integrated rural development has encapsulated the provision of electricity supply to our rural communities”.

He further asserted that There that power supply is central to the socio-economic development of our society, This is why the Adogi-Assakio Rural Electrification project inherited by this Administration has received priority attention.  The contract for the project was awarded since the year 2000, but abandoned by previous administrations in the State.
However said the present Administration after assuming office  re-appraised and   re-mobilised construction firm  to site to enable the people of the area benefit from this essential amenity.

Al-Makura stated that the commissioning of the Adogi-Assakio Rural Electrification project today is in fulfillment of the policy thrust of this Administration aimed at sustaining our efforts towards the opening of the rural areas through the provision of social amenities as catalysts for economic and industrial growth of the State.

“My hope and expectation are that the people of Adogi and Assakio areas will take the opportunity of the availability of this important infrastructure to engage in gainful ventures that will improve their economic wellbeing. Charging youth in the area to use the facility as an avenue for self-employment and economic empowerment.

warn the people of Lafia East Development Area who are the direct beneficiaries of this project to desist from acts capable of jeopardising the realization of its objectives urging all and sundry to ensure vigilance and to guard against the vandalisation of the various electrical installations and other public utilities in the area.
Let me take liberty of this occasion to appeal to the people of Lafia East Development Area to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another.  It is only in this way that we can guarantee security of lives and property and the overall development of our dear State.
need to reiterate the imperative of peaceful co-existence in all communities across to State.
Reading riot act to any community that engages in mindless breach of public peace shall face the full wrath of the law. For the avoidance of doubt, henceforth the”‘ siting of Government projects in communities in the State shall be closely tied to the level of prevailing peace in such areas.  It is, therefore, my hope that no community will deny itself of Government presence by engaging in violence of any form.

> 11.   Before I conclude this address, I must place on record the appreciation of the Government and people of Nasarawa State to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Abuja Business Unit for its support and cooperation towards the completion of the Adogi-Assakio Electrification project.  I trust that this worthy partnership will be sustained for the good of our people.  In the same vein, I commend the Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development, as well as the State Energy Company (NASENCO) for their effective supervision of this projects.
