There are surreptitious moves by the Nigeria police to connive with
the opposition politicians to destabilise the administration of
Governor Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers state, our correspondent has
gathered.

A source close to the Rivers state government said that the grand
plot of destalisation  is “manifesting gradually through the
systematic withdrawal of men of the Police force attached to
sensitive office holders.”

“Since police take their orders from the police headquarters in
Abuja, we cannot but conclude that Abuja politicians and their
cohorts are now using the police to selfishly fight Governor Rotimi
Amaechi. Remember they started with the issue to grounding the
governor’s plane, now they are using police which is supposed to be
neutral to fight their battle. Their plans will fail in Rivers”   our source
lamented.

Our Correspondent further gathered that when a plot to impeach
the governor failed recently, the political enemies of the governor
are now using the police to execute their new plan to create a state
of anarchy in the state.

It was also gathered that the new move of police withdrawals is
already creating panic among multinational oil companies operating
in the state. A dangerous dimension which many believe can make
the Rivers to return to the dark days of high profile militancy,
criminality and kidnapping in the state.

An Ex-Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi and now Minister of State
for Education Mr Nyesom Wike is alleged to have been behind
attacks on the government over his own ambition of becoming the
governor of the state in 2015, an ambition that Governor Amaechi is
not supporting.

Governor Amaechi himself is accused of not backing the idea of
Jonathan 2015 re-election bid which the president’s foot soldiers
have been trumpeting across the country. The governor is also
accused of nursing a Vice Presidential Ambition, an allegation that
he has since denied.
