The controversy brewing around the Baga attack appears to have drawn the attention of the National Security Adviser – who today in Abuja shed light to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ)’s report. He stated that Baga town were attacked by suspected Boko Haram members “Nigerians and International community are free to come and assess”, he said.
In a press statement signed by NSA spokesman, Mr. Karounwi Adekunle, the attack on Baga town was perpetrated by the Boko Haram Islamic sect.
The statement read, “Boko Haram members are in the habit of bombing and setting houses and schools ablaze each time they suffer a loss. This pattern of arson which has been established by Boko Haram,is also the ‘modus operandi’ of terrorist organizations”
In another press statement from NSA today, it added, “Our attention has been drawn to some purported satellite images of Baga town in some Newspapers concerning the attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram members on soldiers and innocent citizens on the 16th of April, 2013. This is not the first time that Boko Haram members have launched attack on Baga, they did so in December, 2012 which led to the dead of several innocent people and their houses set on fire”.
“The cache of arms seized and displayed by JTF clearly shows that Boko Haram carried out these heinous attacks”
