The ongoing sword fight between the governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan appears to exhibit resonance effect beyond the immediate theater of engagement. This is as 247ureports.com was reliably informed by a competent source in Kano State of the slow retreat by the Governor of Kano State over his pre and long conceived intentions to join the presidential contest in 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].

Available information indicates that the governor of Kano who will complete his second tenure in 2015 – had set up a committee to examine the efficacy of his becoming a candidate for presidency in 2015. The committee was populated by political friends of the governor. After 3 months, the committee returned with a strong recommendation urging the Governor to join the presidential race – that the current President is “very beatable”.   The committee, as 247ureports.com gathered, also recommended that he not see the PDP as the only available party to vie under.

Following the committee’s recommendation, the governor was reported to reach out to the former presidential flag bearer of the All Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP] and current presidential flag bearer of the Congress for Progressive Change [CPC], Malam Buhari for several closed door meetings. Following the nocturnal meetings between the two men, they proceeded to make public visits to each other’s domain – Buhari paid a public visit to Kwankwaso – and Kwankwaso repeated same.

According to the information available to 247ureports.com, Kwankwaso had concluded plans to join the new mega merger party, All Peoples Congress [APC] – through the Buhari wing. As gathered, Kwankwaso who is no friends with the former governor of Kano, Malam Shekarau – is reportedly aiming at exploiting the bad blood existing between Malam Buhari and Malam Shekarau. Through this, Kwankwaso anticipates being introduced into the party through the CPC with Buhari assistance. This will enable him contest for the presidential ticket – with Buhari’s blessings and support – thus increasing his chances at victory at the APC primaries. Buhari is said to have been sold on the idea.

But keen observers within the APC who claim to be aware of the ongoing mechanizations to introduce the Kano governor – express concern over the capability of Kwankwaso defeating the incumbent president. They cite Kwankwaso’s corrupt past as a possible drawback for the APC should the candidacy of Kwankwaso be allowed to sail through. They point to an ongoing ‘clandestine’ investigation launched by the Presidency on the financial activities of the Governor as indicative of what may result should the governor be allowed to sail through.

The presidency has already uncovered many shady deals on him”, said the source who pointed specifically to a N2.5billion house which Kwankwaso recently [secretly] purchased in Abuja – at Aso villa.  The source indicated that the governor has become aware of the ongoing investigation – and may have begun making a slow retreat away from the idea of presidential race in 2015 -which was why the governor was quick to refute media reports of his considering a presidential run in 2015.

Malam Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso public retreat came in a recent denial of a purported media report suggesting he would soon declare his ambition to run for the 2015 presidential race. The report had quoted the governor as saying that he will declare his 2015 presidential ambition at the right time. The report stated that the statement was made while Kwankwaso visited Borno State.

Specifically, the Kwankwaso media team through its media leader, Halilu Dantiye stated that “the governor never made any such statement that suggests his intent to contest the presidency of the country come 2015”.

Halilu Dantiye’s statement added also that “the attention of His Excellency has been drawn to a statement credited to him to the effect that he would declare his presidential ambition at the right time during his visit to Maiduguri, Borno state to commiserate with the government and people of the state on the on the recent incident in Baga. His Excellency is currently occupied with how to ensure peace, stability and unity among Nigerians, as well as justifying the mandate given to him by the people of Kano state, and therefore wish to state unequivocally that Gov Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso currently serving his second and final term as governor of Kano state has not declared his interest to vie for the presidency of this country or any other elective position for that matter.”
