As the run-up to the 2014 Anambra governorship election kicks off gradually, one of the popular but fresh face in the line-up, Mr Walter Ubaka Okeke has said he was committed to the welfare and human resource development, but not desperate.

Mr Okeke, a London-trained and certified accountant who has put in quality services in blue chip multinational organizations locally and overseas said he looks forward to clinching the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to enable him actualize his aspiration.

He stated that he would put in his best, but was never desperate. And that as a committed party man, he was ready to bend backwards to absorb others, and would be willing to support anyone who defeats him at the primaries.

The guber hopeful frowned at the system where those who lose the primary run off to other parties that willingly give them ticket without any qualms, “just to split the votes of our party”, he observed. This, he noted, depicts desperation and non commitment to membership and ideals of the party, as well as lack of interest in the electorates.

Okeke who spoke at a dinner in his honour at Nnewi as part of his widespread endorsement, said he openly and warmly welcome the current moves by PDP at the national and local levels to reconcile all aggrieved members ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

He noted that it was cheering for persons who hitherto would not like to sit together to now accept to sit and discuss on the way forward for the party.

His interest and motivation to vie for the governorship of the state, according to him was like one on a rescue mission, one who was personally disturbed by the level of retrogression in the state when compared with others, of the people’s welfare, the high insecurity, non-functional healthcare, poor maintenance culture, sports/youth development, education, agriculture, to arrest the despair in the polity and among the citizens, etc.

He said that he was approached by stakeholders who saw in him the seed and ability to do the job well. That he was until now a quiet private businessman who has been going about his life interests peacefully.
