An Abuja High Court Friday ruled that President Goodluck Jonathan Is eligible to contest the 2015 presidential election if he so wishes.
Delievering the judgment, Presiding Judge, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi held that the assumption of Jonathan to the office of the President after the death of late President Umar Yar’Adua was in line with the National Assembly’s ‘doctrine of necessity’ and that his assumption was not as a result of emerging winner in any bye election conducted after the death of the late former president.
It will be recalled that a presidential aspirant from within the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had argued that this disqualified him.The Abuja High Court dismissed the argument made by Cyriacus Njoku’s lawyer that under the constitution the same person could not take the oath of office three times.
