The Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly (Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu) has described the death of the literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe as not only a personal loss to him, his family, Imo State House of Assembly, but also as a loss to all lovers of knowledge and development, globally.

Speaker Uwajumogu stated that with Chinua Achebe’s death, socio-political and economic development have finally “fallen apart” due to the fact that his wise counsel, moral instructions, constructive criticisms and towering iconic image would no longer be available.

Hear the Speaker, “Honestly I lack words to describe Professor Chinua Achebe. He was the Professor of Professors, Socio cultural icon, foremost socio-crusader of our time.  He was the Ogbuefi of African literature. English language saw him and bowed. He impregnated the world with love, dedication, knowledge, constructive criticisms and selfless service to humanity.

With his death, things have finally fallen apart. Therefore on behalf of Imo State House of Assembly, I condole with the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, the good people of Ikenga – Ogidi in Idemili North L.G.A of Anambra State, the people of Anambra State and indeed to all lovers of knowledge globally to bear this irreparable loss.” Speaker Uwajumogu concluded.
