The attack on health workers in Kano State on the morning hours of Friday February 8, 2013 appears to have developed a new twist. This is as the security agents stationed in Kano have diverted the attention of the investigation away from the responsible culprits – to radio journalists based in Kano State.

Available information indicates that the Police force in Kano arrested three [3] radio journalist today Monday February 11, 2013. The arrested journalist according to reports are attached to the Wazobia FM station – over a broadcast aired on the day before the attack by unknown gunmen on the health workers attached with the polio immunization program.

As gathered, the three arrested radio journalist include – Suleiman Gama,Yakubu Musa, Mubarak Malam.

According to the state Commissioner of Police Mr. Ibrahim Idris, who confirmed the detention of the media men indicated the broadcast was inflammatory – and may have caused the gunmen to attack the health workers. The top boss alleged that the radio program claimed the Polio immunization program was as anti-Islam – and plot by the western countries to reduce the population of the Islamic population in Nigeria – because the polio immunization allegedly reduced fertility. “Our detectives are now quizzing the journalists at the Bompai police command in Kano”, the police stated.

It is recalled nine female health workers were gun down last Friday when unknown gun men opened fire on two health centers in the Kano – at Angwar Uku and Hotoro – at the Shargawlle Comprehensive Health center in Angwar Uku quarters when gunmen stormed the health centre on a motorbike and tricycle and hit at the centre, killing the victims, while setting part of the building ablaze. In a separate attack in Haye, Hotoro quarters, the gun men were said to have opened fire on the health workers.
