Following the revelation by 247ureports.com of the alleged mismanagement of the N36million earmarked  by the Anambra State Government for training of the 30 members of the Anambra State House of Assembly in South Africa, the leadership of the State Assembly opted to revise their original intended mode of operation.

The Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon Chinwe Clara Nwaebili had drafted a proposal for the entire state assembly to attend a training course that would cost the sum of N36million. The proposal was drafted while she visit London recently through the assistance of involved associates who she had promised a cut of the money – when it is released by the State government. She promised the drafters 10percent of the N36million. But with the release of the said N36million last week, the Speaker stopped answering their telephone calls – she closed all communication lines.

The Speaker in tandem with the deputy speaker, Hon. Orizu [from Nnewi], according to a competent source, proceeded to corner the N36million against the wishes of the remainder of the 28 lawmakers in the Anambra legislative chamber. Initially, the duo removed N24million out of the N36million, and then proceeded to distribute the remainder of N12million to the lawmakers as ‘pocket money’ for the trip to South Africa. The lawmakers were not happy with the arrangement.

With 247ureports.com publication [N36m Scandal Rocks Anambra State Assembly, Speaker Fingered] exposing the intended scandal, the leadership of the Anambra legislative chamber recanted away from their original plot – and upped the amount of money it intends to distribute to the lawmakers from N400,000 each to N500,000 each. With the new arrangement, the leadership of the State Assembly distributed N15million instead of the original N12million. The remainder of the N21million remain domiciled with the Speaker of the Anambra State Assembly,Hon Chinwe Clara Nwaebili.

Interestingly, the lawmakers are scheduled to depart for South Africa on Saturday January 26, 2013 aboard Rwanda Airlines. The training is slated to last for 5 days.

What appears financial mischief unfolding within the legislative chambers threatens the financial tranquil enjoyed over the years under the leadership of Governor Peter Obi. It will remain uncertain how far the developing trend will go.
