The campaign organisation of Prince Dayo Adeyeye, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) has queried the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) government in the State over the more than N1 billion subsidy fund already taken by the government.
PAAM, which commended the State Implementation Committee of the Federal Government’s Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P), said Governor Kayode Fayemi must tell Ekiti people what has happened to the over N1 billion received by the State Government as its share of the subsidy fund.
Speaking through its Director General, Hon. Bisi Kolawole, PAAM said in a release issued today that; “if Ekiti State is benefiting from the federal government’s share of the subsidy fund, through the SURE-P with the employment of 15,000 youths under the Community Services, Youths and Women Employment Scheme, it has become necessary that Ekiti people are told what the state’s share of the subsidy fund is being spent on.”
The statement read; “Today, we are seeing what the PDP-led federal government is doing for Ekiti from its share of the subsidy fund. 15,000 youths are to be engaged in community services, with N10,000 as monthly stipend.
“Already, 3,000 of the youths are on the verge of being recruited with another 2,000 to be recruited next month. By the time the 15,000 allocated to Ekiti State are recruited, a total sum of N150 million will coming into the economy of the State monthly, and the effects of this will be monumental.
“Now, can we begin to ask Fayemi what he has done with the State share of the subsidy fund?
“From our investigation, over N1 billion has been received so far and nothing, apart from setting up of a committee has been heard as to what the fund is being spent on.
“Sometimes last year, they lied that the State Government was spending part of its share of the subsidy fund to subsidise kerosene with a programme termed ‘Kero Direct’ under which kerosene was sold at N50 per litre.
“However, their falsehood was exposed when it was aired on a national television that the programme was a federal government initiative, which other states also benefited from.
“Therefore, can Governor Fayemi tell Ekiti people what he has done with their share of the subsidy fund?”
