A gunman opened fire on people at Bigi Village in Bauchi State on Monday, killing many and injuring others, the police have said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abbas Abdullahi, confirmed the incident on Monday in Bauchi.
The gunman may have escaped unhurt as the police spokesperson did not comment on his arrest or death.
Mr. Abdullahi said all the victims have been taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for treatment.
He said that not all the people shot had died, explaining that some of the victims were currently receiving treatment at the Teaching Hospital.
The police spokesperson said the number of casualties had not been determined by the police, assuring however, that the figure would be announced by the police in due course.
The police have cordoned off the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
In a similar development, the police and army formations in Bauchi metropolis have been barricaded.
Vehicular and human traffic have been reduced to the barest minimum while a section of the road leading to the office of the Commissioner of Police in the state has also been condoned off.
Access to the Army Barracks has since been restricted to forestall attack.
