Staffs of the Nigerian Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank under the auspices of Bankers Against Indiscipline have dragged their colleague and Head of Risk Management of the Bank, Mrs. Sarattu Umar to the nation’s apex bank for gross misconduct, unethical behavior, unprofessional habits and indiscipline which they claim are capable of tarnishing their collective image before their customers.
According to the group, Mrs Saratu Umar has brought the image of the Bank into disrepute for refusing to pay her rent and flagrantly disobeying a Court judgment and causing the Bank to be garnished in a law suit with wide media publicity.
In a letter signed by Mohammed Gambo and sent to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the group is imploring the major shareholder and supervisory body of NEXIM Bank to step in with the big stick to discipline Saratu Umar as the act of misconduct and indiscipline committed by Mrs. Saratu Umar has a precedence in the Bank where one Lapai who was involved in act similar to this in the past was dismissed based on the recommendations of Mrs Saratu in the past.
The staffs are calling on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure that the right thing is done as Saratu Umar has continued to maintain an untouchable posture in the Bank where her command is seen as a law.
The petitioners alleged that they have no confidence in the Managing Director to thoroughly discipline the said Saratu Umar again because of her total disregard for directives in the Bank and said that if her action not properly investigated and treated a negative precedence would be set thereby eroding the confidence of customers on the bank.
“Mrs. Saratu Umar is obviously above the law in NEXIM Bank, we know the bank does not belong to her father but all Nigerians and hence the need to seek for appropriate disciplinary actions before the supervisory body and major shareholder of the Bank as these unprofessional habits, misconduct, indisciplinary character of Saratu are capable of rubbishing our collective hardwork which has seen the bank through difficult financial terrains in the past”
“It is very wicked and criminally intended for a woman who has earned above 18 million naira as housing and furniture allowances to refuse to observe her obligations to other citizens and herby causing the court to garnishee NEXIM Bank as a party to her actions in the society”.
“We challenge the CBN examiners who are currently carrying out assessment tour in the bank to dare access Mrs Saratu Umar’s performance record in the last few years to find out if she has not constituted herself to a negative liaibility on the bank,” the letter further queried.
