His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State, has convened a special PDP party caucus meeting with leaders of the party in the Local Government Areas.
The meeting is scheduled for Eight O’clock in the evening on Sunday, 2nd of December, 2012 at Government House, Yenagoa.
The leadership of the party is expected to formally present a report to the state Governor on the party’s preparation for the forthcoming local government elections in the State.
In a related development, as preparations for the local government elections gather momentum, the State Governor has directed the security agencies to vet the names and background of persons who have expressed interest to run for offices in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The directive is in line with the administration’s policy of zero tolerance for crime, cultism, violence and all forms of criminality, stressing that they should also find out the background, check and vet the names of all aspirants for elective offices in the various local governments.
This is aimed at ensuring that persons who are tainted in anyway are not allowed to fly the party’s flag.
It is imperative to note that the new PDP in Bayelsa State going forward has no room for persons with questionable background or character.
To this end, Governor Dickson has called on all that have expressed interest to vie or seek to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming local government elections to conduct themselves with utmost decorum.
He stated unequavocally that, the party has no preferred candidates and will not condone any attempt by anyone to flout laid down procedures and rules set out by the party for candidates to emerge.
Security agencies have further been put on red alert to identify and deal with anyone who is out to forment trouble or bent on disturbing the peace.
The statement adviced that, anyone who is aggrieved or feel cheated by the process should seek redress through the appropriate channels instead of taking the laws in to their hands.
Similarly, political appointees have been specifically warned NOT to show or indicate preference for any candidate or be involved in any act capable of heating up the polity.
They are required as political appointees to focus on their official duties and abstain completely from any act that is unbecoming as regards their roles and designations as political appointees.
