*as search of Obi’s successor intensifies

As mixed feelings continue to dog the likely choice of successor to the Anambra state governor, Mr Peter Obi come next year’s guber elections in the state, the nation’s contemporary security challenges and the role of youth and students have remained issues for public debates.

The role of the nation’s youth and students in the struggle to restore peace and cohesion has continued to attract public debates and comments.

This was the focus of the seminar by the students of Anambra State University, ANSU, yesterday, titled Role of Youth in the Security and National Development.

The chairman of the occasion and a former governorship candidate in the state, Dr Alex Obiogbolu urged the youth and students to endeavour to always channel their God-given energies and potentials to positive uses.

He charged them to disregard any unsavoury comments directed to them that tend to dampen or demoralize, but to look forward to a greater future, using notable great public personalities as models of hope. He told them that most of the models started as insignificant nobodies but later blossomed into international figures due to perseverance and consistency.

Dr Obiogbolu in his paper, “Oganiru Anambra …, our dream, our future” charged every citizen to digest his advice contained therein, and evolve a changed attitude for the good of the society.

On the recent negative effects of the use of internet, the seminar pointed out that there is always a negative side to every good thing like the Facebook, Twitter, blog, and email. The youth were therefore reminded that Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, as well as the youth who invented Facebook changed and touched their generations positively. All users of the facilities should therefore toe the line of positive thought, always.

A member of the state Assembly, Mr Tony One Week Muonagor also charged them to avoid corrupt and misleading discussions and tendencies but to strive to leave a legacy they would always be proud of.

The seminar which was attended by academics, politicians and technocrats appealed to citizens to shine their eyes as they seek out a successor to Gov Obi who they said has done well. They urged the youth to avoid being used as weapons of destabilization in the country as most of those sponsoring crises have their families overseas.
