The Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta has arrested a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), youth leader, Mr. Suobre Appah and two other persons over alleged involvement in a failed bank robbery operation in the state.
Suobre Appah, who was once a staunch supporter of immediate passed governor of the state, Mr. Timipre Sylva was also a member of the defunct, Youths and Conflict Resolution Committee, leader of the Great Yenagoa House and the Yenagoa Coordinator of the Bayelsa Volunteer.
It was gathered that the operatives of the JTF who arrested him said some robbery suspects arrested recently undoubtedly fingered Mr. Suobre Appah as the one providing them with firearms in their confessional statement, stressing that the suspects who were arrested during the botched bank robbery in Yenagoa had been undergoing interrogation with the Crack Team.
When contacted the Media Coordinator of the JTF on phone, Lt. Col. Onyeanka Nwachukwu who actually confirmed the arrest said the Joint Task Force (JTF) was still on its investigation. Infact, the arrest of Mr. Suobre Appah in Yenagoa had triggered bitter controversy as his loyalists were alleging that the Bayelsa State government was behind his present predicament.
When 247ureports.com met one of the supporter’s along Harbour Road, Yenagoa said his arrest and detention was calculated attempt and frame- up by those who had failed to make him renounce his loyalty to the Sylva’s camp.
His political associate who spoke with us said his (Suobre Appah) lawyers had already approached the court to seek redress and relief for the violation of his fundamental human right and vowed to pursue the matter to logical conclusion.
However, a government source was contacted and said it is not aware of his arrest. “We are not aware of this development if not what you (reporter) called me. In the land there is stipulated rules and regulations and if he denies any involvement of the said robbery operation, let him proves that in the law court because government did not asked them to go for the robbery operation”, the source said.
