Delta state governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has described agriculture as a very useful instrument for mass empowerment.Dr. Uduaghan who stated this yesterday while announcing the postponement of the launching of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) for youths and women in Asaba, enjoined stakeholders to intensify their investment in agriculture.
He said agriculture was very lucrative noting that it was more rewarding socio-economically than other sectors of the society.
In what looked like a question and answer session the governor stressed the importance of farming and charged the youths and women to use it to improve their living standard.
The governor explained that farming was a big empowerment tool that can help improve the living standard of an individual stressing that a successful farmer would never be dependent on the government or the society.
Dr. Uduaghan who explained that the launching of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme was postponed because of the inability of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okojo-Iweala to get a flight to Asaba.
According to him, bad weather occasioned by heavy rainfall that lasted for hours in Asaba prevented her flight from taking off from Abuja yesterday.
“Dr. Ngozi Iweala is very passionate about this programme, that is why she wanted to be here personally to launch it but was unable to make it because of the bad weather, she has been in the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja since 9am but could not fly”, the Governor stated.
