Ghanaian President John Attah Mills died few hours after taking ill according to a statement sent by the president’s office to Reuters on Tuesday.
“It is with a heavy heart…that we announce the sudden and untimely death of the president of the Republic of Ghana,” Reuters quoted the statement as saying.
It said the president, 68, died a few hours after being taken ill but no further details were given. But the BBC reported that Mr. Mills had been suffering from throat cancer.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mr. John Dramani Mahama has been sworn-in as President, following the demise of incumbent President John Atta Mills at the age of 68 year.
