247ureports.com can authoritatively report that there were tension, bewilderment and trepidation among the people of Obollo, Isiala Mbano local council area of Imo State, as a result of a staggering detection of a huge bomb near the Umudo village hall. The Villagers immediately they had the incident, as soon as possible made their way for safety to other communities where they presumed there was safety.
The bomb which was not exploded was seen just less than 24 hours to a planned concelebrated sung mass billed for the village by the Parish Priest of Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Obollo, Rev. Fr. Charles Ohuabunwa.
However, speaking to newsmen on the repulsive issue, the Village Head, Chief Patrick Osuji and another villager, Mr. Uzoma Okorigwe told journalist that the said bomb was seen at about 3pm when an old man was trying to clean up the hall and its surroundings ahead of the Eucharistic celebration. The duo equally affirmed that information about the shocking discovery was quickly passed on to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuelemai.
Also at the scene of the incident was the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. I. M. Anaforom, also informed newsmen that his men swayed into deed as soon as he received the report. According to him; “We rushed to the scene, assessed the situation, cordoned off the area and alerted the appropriate authorities. That was how the bomb disposal unit of the State Police Command was called in to detonate the bomb.”
While fielding questions from journalist the DPO said that the bomb is a conventional foreign-made explosive and that is not an improvised explosive device. Mbano is home to the former governor of Imo state – and the home of the former INEC chair. Imo state has been peaceful and devoid of sectarian violence. It will be recalled that over the weekend – three States were on fire – Kaduna, Yobe and Edo – while the president took to travelling around the globe for soft business jamborees.
