TEHRAN (FNA)- Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi appointed Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoun Abbasi as the head of the country’s Crisis Management Center for Nuclear and Radiation Accidents.
In a decree issued on Tuesday, Gen. Firouzabadi approved a proposal made by the head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization, General Gholam Reza Jalali, to appoint Abbasi as the commander of Iran’s Nuclear and Radiation Accidents Crisis Management Headquarters.
Addressing a ceremony held to declare decision, Jalali said that Iran has taken proper measures in the field of radiation and cyber defense and is running studies on biological and chemical defense.
He added that the Radiation Defense Headquarters’ is tasked with taking preparatory measures to decrease the impacts of radiation accidents in times of crisis.
“Radiation defense will be carried out at national and provincial levels and includes confronting pollution, monitoring threats, treating the injured, cleaning polluted areas, disseminating information and decreasing threats as well as enhancing the level of preparedness, organizing and creating proper mechanism for times of crisis and holding drills and public training and information dissemination,” Jalali explained.
