At least 11 persons were confirmed dead and 17 others seriously injured after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Gajigana village on Thursday night,ย security sources said.
Gajigana is a border settlement between Nigeria and Niger Republic about 157km northeast of Maiduguri,ย Borno State capital.
According to local security operatives,ย some gunmen in their dozens invaded the village in the night of Thursday after Local villagers had assisted security operatives to identify one of the Boko Haram leaders (Amir) who was later killed in a fierce gun battle days before the incident.
“They came in their dozens shooting and setting houses ablaze,ย and the local residents had to flee for their dear lives into the bushes “, said Muhammed Gava,ย an official of the Nigeria Vigilante Group in Borno state.

“When our men returned to the village on Friday morning, they were able to retrieve 11 corpses and helped some 17 others that are injured to get to the hospital for treatment. All major houses were burnt down completely but the terrorists didn’t capture or hoist their flags in the town.
Gajigana is just some few Kilometers away from Damasak,ย the headquarters of Mobbar local government area that was recently attacked by Boko Haram who hoisted their flags there.
