Northern Youth Assembly [NYA] In spite of the pending suit instituted against Zamfara State Government by the Zamfara State Chapter of the Northern Youth Assembly over the ongoing plan to discard the 24 Million unit of Shares jointly owned by the state government and 14 Local Government Councils, the leadership of the NYA hosted Journalists at a Press Conference in Gusau to discuss the state of affairs of the current administration of Governor Abdul’azeez Yari Abubakar.
Addressing Journalists at the Conference hall of Habib Restaurant in Gusau the state capital, the State Chairman of Zamfara NYA Manir Haidara Kaura noted that, the purported attempt by the State Government to discard the 24 Million unit of Shares on the ground that it want to fund the shortfalls in the 2014 Budget is no more than a political hidden agenda that he described as an attempt to execute an ‘’Election Budget’’.
He noted that, while the neighboring Northern States like Kano, Katsina, Jigawa are busy executing capital intensive projects that have direct bearing on the life of their citizenry without borrowing a stipend as loan the state government resorted to accruing unjustifiable bank loans that continue to became over burden to the government and impacted negatively on the socio-economic development of the state.
He noted that, while the state is lagging behind in almost every aspect of human development when compared with its peers, the revelation by the Governor some times last year that, his administration is spending the sum of 600m monthly as security votes, further confirmed the highest level of insincerity in the state governance adding that, on the daily basis innocent people of the state are been killed and inhumanly injured due to lack of concern by the government.
Haidara noted that, instead of discarding the state owned shares and miss appropriated the money for a political agenda, the 25 Billion Naira cost of the shares can be used judiciously to generate 50MW of electricity which is enough for Zamfara State people.
He added further that, based on the independent investigation conducted by the assembly, Zamfara is the least payer of workers salary with expensive salaries for un-used political appointees and at the same time achieve no meaningful development in terms of budget implementation despite the Multi-Year Budgeting System it introduced. He explained that, despite claim by the administration of spending over 70 Billion Niara on road, the quality of these newly constructed roads is nothing to write home about.
While insisting that the NYA Zamfara will continue to pursue the course of justice for the people of the state, its earlier position of constituting a legal suit against the state government on the sales of the state shares stands.
