Governor Peter Obi has distributed flood relief materials to all communities in Ogbaru and Amnambra West Local Government Areas at the weekend. Governor Obi who presented the materials at Atani, the Headquarters of the Local Government, also presented one million naira to each of the communities, totaling sixteen million naira. He also did same at Anambra West communities that received relief materials and Seventeen Million Naira. Obi said he was personally supervising the distribution of those materials to ensure that they get to those they were meant for.

The materials distributed include bags of rice, garri, smovita, maize, cartons of noddles, tubers of yam, blankets, mattresses, pillows, clothing materials, cartons of soap, pots, plastic can and buckets among others.

Governor Obi said the gesture was in line with his earlier promise that government would assist those displaced by the flood to resettle in their various communities and pick up their sources of livelihood. He explained that the materials will be shared equally to the sixteen communities and enjoined the traditional rulers and Presidents General to ensure that the materials are properly and transparently shared, assuring that more relief materials will be extended to the area.

The Governor said the one million naira financial support was to assist farmers to bring seedlings and other inputs for their farms.

The Speaker State House of Assembly, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili said the Governor had continued to carry the people of the area along and had given them a sense of belonging, noting that the materials would help to cushion the effect of the flood.

Princess Chinwe Nwaebili disclosed that the Governor has adequately empowered the contractor handling the Odekpe-Atani-Ossomala-Ogwuikpele road to accelerate tempo of work.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Osseloka Obaze noted that the Governor has remained unrelenting in his efforts to mitigate the plight of those affected by the flood and thanked him for fulfilling his promise.
