The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has called on Nigerian politicians above sixty years of age to quit active politics or be ready to be voted out by the people.

He described such politicians as burden on the growth and development of the country.

Addressing newsmen in Awka, yesterday, the Prelate wondered why persons who retired from active service would be allowed to pilot the affairs of the country.

He urged christians to ensure active participation during the 2019 general election, insisting that the only way to vote out the wrong people during elections was by obtaining the permanent voters card which would commence on Monday.

The cleric however expressed displeasure over the attitude of christians who speak ill of the government but always fail to participate in the election process, just as he condemned those who sell their votes for little token and suffer the protracted consequences.

He stressed that christians were entrusted with the responsibility of taking the lead in positive direction, charging them to eschew non-chalant attitudes as Nigeria belongs to nobody in particular but to everyone collectively.

Applauding the recent move by EFCC and INEC to check-mate excessive spending by politicians during elections, Bishop Ezeokafor

maintained that if implemented it would restore sanity in the election process, as it would help project right candidate to the society during campaigns.
