Mr Iliya Habila, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi, said that a committee had been constituted to boost quality healthcare delivery in the area.
Habila said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, adding that the committee was expected to identify problems bedeviling 40 primary healthcare centres (PHC) in the area and proffer solutions to them.
He said that the council had partnered with Village Development Committees (VDC) and Ward Development Committees (WDC) to revive the centres and mobilise attendance, especially in areas of Maternal and Child health, Ante natal, Routine Immunisation and Hospital delivery.
He said that a seed fund would be provided for the purchase of drugs, which would in future become a revolving fund.
Habila said: “PHC is core in the health sector and if it becomes functional with quality servce and qualified human resource, referral will be less and healthcare will be improved.
“The committee will go round the 40 PHC within the shortest period of time for us to know the lapses and gaps for immediate action.
“Since my assumption of office one month ago, the council has inspected PHCs and we are working with village and ward development committees in that direction.
“The council will procure drugs and also provide a revolving fund for drugs to be available at the centres at all time.’’
