Banditry: Prayer is my strength, says Gov Matawalle

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State has called on people of the state to intensify prayers for the sustenance of peace in the state.

According to him, his administration emerged about 100 days ago following the intense prayers of the people for Allah to bring a leadership that would help end the terrible security situation and armed banditry facing the state coupled with poverty.

Matawalle, according to a statement by the Director – General (Press Affairs), Yusuf Idris Gusau, made the plea on Monday at the beginning of the week long 100 days celebration of the administration.

The activity was kick started with Special Preaching and Prayers which was held at the Eid Praying ground, Gusau.

Matawalle said, it was the same prayers that helped the administration in finding lasting solution to the security challenges as well as other ways of improving the standards of living of the good people of the state.

The governor however lamented that the administration had identified some security agencies trying to create problem to these efforts which now requires more prayers from the citizenry even as he has taken measures in addressing the matter.

He maintained that his administration would not be distracted nor deterred by individuals of groups from pursuing the good things of life for its people and will remain focused in its effort to attain its set objectives.

The Barden Hausa reaffirmed that the state government will continue to strengthen and work through the guidance of the Shariah legal system while providing basic social amenities and employment opportunities in order to fight poverty and social vices.

On the issue of the recent mosque demolition in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, Gov Matawalle who urged the Muslim umma to remain calm, said he has spoken on phone with his Rivers state counterpart who has invited him to Rivers saying he will go with some representatives of the Council of Ulama to objectively discuss the matter with a view to finding amicable resolution of the matter.

Many Islamic scholars who attended the event spoke on the importance of peace and dialogue, the quality of the human being and the dangers of spilling human blood and urged people to continue to live peacefully with their neighbors irrespective of religion, skin colour, tribe or section.

The scholars include Sheik Tukur Sani Jangebe, Dr. Atiku Balarabe Zawuyya, Sheik Abubakar Sodangi, Sheik Ahmad Umar Kanoma, Sheik Aminu Aliyu Gusau, Sheik Kabiru Umar Maru and Sheik Abdullahi Yabo.

The event was graced by the state Deputy governor, Barr. Mahdi Ali Gusau, Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Magarya, the SSG, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, the Head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, PDP state Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha Gusau, Emirs, National and state assembly members, local government council chairmen, politicians and well wishers.
