US Govt. Supports Kano’s Efforts in Education

Believes that Kano is transcending

Promises closer economic ties through state chamber of commerce

United States of America commends governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s efforts in education sector, believing that his recent free and compulsory basic and post-basic education policy is timely and highly encouraging for the development of the state.

This was disclosed by the USA Deputy of Mission in Nigeria, Mrs Kathleen Fitz Gibbon, on behalf of the Ambassador, when governor Ganduje paid them a courtesy call, at the Embassy in Abuja, Friday, revealing that the new Ambassador would report to Nigeria in November.

She said “We believe that the effort is commendable. This approach will definitely bring good things to the state. We see education as an equaliser, which bridges gaps between people.”

Revealing that, the government of United States would look into other areas that would help in having closer ties with Kano. After appreciating that, Nigerians are becoming educational power house.

“This policy on free and compulsory education will be given priority from our government. It is, in no small measure, a strong strategy for developing your state and making your people self-independent. This is encouraging and equally important,” she said.

Impressed by Kano’s achievements in education sector, the Deputy of Mission of the Embassy informed the governor that, to achieve effective and efficient advancement in the education sector, particularly the free and compulsory primary and post-primary education policy, the Embassy requests the state to give them some teams to work closely with for the success of the policy.

“We need to do that at different stages of policy implementation. That will definitely strengthen the implementation and would also help in making things easily workable. We want intervene appropriately. Ours is to see how we can join hands together and work,” she hopes.

“Nigerians are entrepreneurial wherever they find themselves. I am also glad to inform His Excellency that, Nigerians living in the United States are one of the most successful  foreigners there,” she discloses.

Mrs Gibbon intimated the governor that, US Embassy is running many developmental programmes in Kano, ensuring that, “We shall improve on all that we are doing in Kano. Not only that, we should try as much as we can to explore other areas of mutual interest between us. So that we can help the state attain greater heights.”

She reveals that they are running some programmes in three communities drawn from the three Senatorial Districts of the state, “…and we are going to intimate you about them, to see how we can collaborate and improve on what we are doing,” she said.

After assuring that they would explore other ways for mutual cooperation, she encouraged further that US Embassy and Kano would work closely so that they could complement each other effectively.

When governor Ganduje informed her that Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) is one of the most vibrant Chambers in the country, she informed the governor that, they would be glad to have more presence in Kano through the Chamber of Commerce.

In his remarks governor briefed her about his policy, plans and programmes in the education sector, and thanked them for all the interventions they are rendering to the state.

“We need very strong synergy between us. So that we can work together for humanity,” he added.
