Agriculture : Kano Fadama Project is one of the best in the Country – Gawuna

Kano State Deputy Governor Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has affirmed that Kano Fadama Project remains the best in the Country considering how the programme increases the level of Farmers productivity.

Dr. Gawuna made this known on Wednesday when he received the Task Team leader of World Bank on Agro Processing Productivity,  enhancement and livelihood support project (Appeal) who paid him a Courtesy Call in his office.

He maintained that this was as a result of the interventions by the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in collaboration with project coordinators in Kano who provided tremendous support to Small Scale Farmers.

” I know how we have rubbed mind and came together to make this Project works in Kano.  Without fear of contradictions,  Fadama Project in Kano is one of the best in the Country ” he said.

According to Gawuna one area of support that has been enjoyed by the programme in Kano was the donation of eight Tractors by the Kano State Government to be handed over to the participants to ease their farming activities.

Gawuna added that Commercial Agriculture has also been considered as one of the programme that enhances farmers productivity in the State, acknowledging that ” Women and Youth who engaged in commercial agriculture project are doing very well and up to now 85% of the participants are compliant “

The Deputy Governor noted that there were other value chains handles by the State in terms of this project which include the aspect of rice, wheat and tomatoes production among others.

” At the moments,  Kano has been chosen to flag off rice planting season under the Ancho Borrowers Programme and Kano has the largest number of Farmers that have registered so far ” said Gawuna.

Dr. Nasiru Yusuf however assured the team leader of the present administration support and cooperation especially on the effort of boosting the State economy through agriculture, adding that on all other issues, Kano State Government is willing to Partners with Appeal project to ensure best result.

Earlier,  the World bank task team leader on agro processing productivity,  enhancement and livelihood support project Dr. Adetunji Oredife said he was in Kano to monitor the project so far and seek the State Government’s continuous intervention to yield higher performance.

” when I came in, I made a quick analysis of the situations and I noticed that a solid foundation of this project has been laid. Some of the buildings blocks that have been put together, they are second to non ” he appreciated.

Dr. Adetunji explained that Appeal project is unique in a way that the project is building on the experience gained from the previous interventions for the subsistence Farmers.

” We have succeeded in improving their productivity to a largest stage, we have also succeeded in fixing the problem and assisted them with value chain that they are working now ” he announced.

Oredife said the major challenge that is a head of his team would be the effort to sustain the existing tempo and focus on the result to be delivered by the project for the years to come.

” the need for livelihood is huge in Kano and other States of the Federation which is a pointer that Government has issue to deal with and this is not only in agriculture but in all other sectors that affect women and youths ” said Adetunji.
