Kano Emirate : Bebeji People Support Ganduje, Call for the Deposition of District Head

Amid controversy that trails the rumored resignation of the District Head of Bebeji and his later denial of the resignation, the people of his domain, Bebeji local government, in hundreds, call for the immediate removal of the traditional leader, Haruna Rashid Sunusi.

Under the auspices of Bebeji Concerned Citizens, under the leadership of Alhaji Umar Baba, presented a letter of solidarity for the creation of new Emirate Councils in the state, to governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and complaint concerning their District Head.

The letter was presented to the governor through the Commissioner of Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba, when hundreds of the peaceful protesters converged at Bebeji local government secretariat, Tuesday.

On the call for the removal of the District Head, they said “We are calling on the governor that we don’t want an absentee District Head in Haruna Rashid Sanusi, who rarely lives in Bebeji, not to talk of having time to listen to his people.”

They urged that, they wanted somebody who had time for his people. “Not somebody who rarely shows up for the communal interest of his people. He is always away from his domain. He doesn’t care about us.”

Another complaint against the traditional leader, according to the people who converged to present their letter of complaints to the governor, was, as read by Baba “The lackadaisical attitudes of the District Head over all issues affecting the local government and his subjects.”

Leader of the group, Baba said “We are here to register our solidarity to the governor of Kano state, over the creation of more Emirate Councils in the state. We believe that, that decision was reached with the sole intention of further developing our state.”

After stating their unalloyed support, the group further states their total commitment and loyalty to their new Emirate Council, Rano, assuring that “We are loyal to our new Emirate Council and we will remain so throughout our lifetime. And others will follow.”

On his part Ganduje’s representative at the event, Garba assured that, the issue of the creation of the new Emirate Councils was a close chapter, revealing that, “This issue of the creation of new Emirate Councils has come to stay.”

Reminded that, all due processes were followed before the Law establishing the new Emirates came to reality, insisting that, “All provisions of law were followed before we reached this level.”

“Before our governor assented the Bill for the creation of these Emirate Councils, he reviewed the Bill and made sure that, what was contained therein would greatly make impact to the general wellbeing of our people. He saw good reason for it, which influenced his decision to sign the Bill into Law,” he reminded.

According to Garba the creation came up purposely to bring development closer to the people, in many areas of human endeavour. While giving some other Emirate Councils that were created in some other states, as examples,  like in Jigawa state, which prompted the development of the new Emirates.

The chairman of the local government, Ali Namadi Bebeji, who witnessed the handing over of the letter to the commissioner for onward transmission to governor Ganduje, commended the effort being put bu those who converged to register their solidarity to the governor and lodged their complaint over their District Head, at the same time.
