Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday, expressed surprise at the high rate of cult related activities in the State saying it is very strange to him.

Governor Ortom expressed the surprised while speaking to newsmen during an inspection tour of township roads in Makurdi.

Ortom said the cult related killings were unfortunate and was happy that many of the cult members have been arrested and prosecuted by the Police.

He warned young men in the state who are into cult to turn a new leaf vowing that anyone caught will be made to face the wrath of he law.

“Over 100 of them are in police custody facing prosecution. I do not know where this comes from. This is strange to most of us who grew up here. But for us, we believe in the rule of law. Those who are into cultism are advised to get out of it or be dealt with.

“We are going to have a security meeting in order to find ways of stemming this menace bedeviling our society”, he said.

Governor Ortom had gone round Makurdi inspecting ongoing renovation of township roads especially the Naka-Adaka, Customary court, Wurukum, Makurdi/Gboko road as well as rehabilitation of St. Theresa Primary School under the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC Fund.

The Governor who expressed satisfaction at the level of work done on the projects, however, said he was disappointed at the failure of some contractors to complete work on renovation of primary schools across the State.

Governor Ortom therefore directed the Chairman of State Univetsal Basic Education, SUBEB, to ensire that those who defaulted are handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

“These are public funds. Once you enter into contract you must fulfil the obligation or else, you would be handed over to the EFCC and other anti corruption agencies”, he said.
