Abia: Why Ukwa People Deserve Senate Seat In 2019 – Nkwonta

A chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA )in Abia State, Chief Chris Nkwonta, has said the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West local government areas would go into political extinction if they fail to produce the senator representing Abia South district in 2019.

Nkwonta who is vying for the APGA ticket in Abia South, stated this while reacting to a communiqué signed by over 50 stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party,( PDP) from two local government areas, demanding that the Abia South senatorial position should be zoned to the Ukwa bloc, lamented that it is unjust for the Obingwa council area to produce both the governor and the Senator for Abia South.

He alleged that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe who is seeking a fourth tenure as the senator for Abia South, has nothing to show for his representation since 2007 and should give way to others.

Nkwonta urged Ukwa people to work together and woo their Ngwa brothers for support, alleging that most of the signatories to the communiqué worked against the interest of the area during the 2015 polls.

He, however, commended the signatories to the communiqué for retracing their steps, stressing that most of them insisted that it was not yet the turn of the Ukwa bloc to produce a senator during the 2015 election.

“Where is the place of the Ukwa man in the politics of Abia and Nigeria? We are nowhere today. I’m glad that Ukwa people have woken from their slumber to demand their right to the senatorial position. In 2015, they said I was wrong and driven by inordinate ambition when I led efforts to redress this great injustice against Ukwa bloc. I was called names. Most of these signatories to this communiqué worked against me as the APGA senatorial candidate in the 2015 election even the Ngwa bloc produced the governor and senator. They said it is not our turn, party is supreme, and party has spoken. Now that we have woken up from our slumber, I hope and pray that politics of stomach infrastructure will not derail us again.

“Thank God, my people have now seen what I saw since 2014. It is a great injustice for the Ngwa people to produce both the governor and the senator representing Abia South with nothing for their Ukwa brother. The senator who has been there since 2007 has recorded no achievement, but wants a fourth term. Because we allowed this great injustice in 2015, our conquerors believe we will also allow it in 2019. It is unjust for a brother to seize what belongs to two brothers for himself alone.”
