The Nigeria Democratic Congress Party (NDCP) has condemned the ruling All Progressives Congress over the numerous reports of violence recorded during the ward congresses in various parts of the country during the past week.

According to media reports, lives were lost and injuries recorded during the exercise in Rivers, Delta, Lagos, and Gombe states. The congresses in many other states were similarly disrupted.
NDCP Founder, Dr. Johnson Edosomwan, a US based Nigerian business leader has described the incident as heartbreaking and disheartening.

Edosomwan said, “It is disheartening to observe the wave of violence all over the country as a result of the political party congresses that occurred during the past week. It is heartbreaking that the lives of some of our compatriots were lost in this process. The militarization of our democracy cannot be the norm. We must depart from the old established order of impunity, imposition and intimidation.”

According to Edosomwan, the NDCP was formed as a result of his desire to build true democracy in the country. He described his party as one where every member is a delegate who “can freely select their representatives who would lead them.”
