Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has said that the Kano Economic City will in a great way, transform the economy of the state and restore its enviable position as strategic Sub-Saharan African Trade Hub and linking Central Africa.

Ganduje made this remarks in Kano on Wednesday during the North West Zonal Sensitization and Consultation Workshop on African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) held at the Coronation Hall.

According to the Governor, the state government is committed to modernizing all trade facilitation vehicles through a robust program of city renewal.

“We are supporting the establishment of the Kano Economic City (KEC) which shall facilitate international trade, modernizing the existing major metropolitan markets of Kantin Kwari, Singa, Sabon Gari, Dawanau and Kurmi SD some of these markets have been in existence since 15 century”

Ganduje further explained that the KEC is an approach initiated by the state government with a view to improving the quality of the urban context through the relocation of numerous commercial activities that clog up the city in to a more distinct and new revenue generating scheme.

” Kano State is willing and committed to taking further specific steps to re-activate and update historic trade corridors with the objective of using these corridors to boost Nigerian Exports and of course the intra-African trade”

That in line with the establishment of free Trade Zones, the state government has embarked on a strategy for the actualization of the longer free zone at Panisau, the Kanye Karaye Local Government Area site, Dala inland Dry Port Transport and Logistics.
