Prospective investors have fled the state over the recent killings in some Benue communities by Fulani Herdsmen, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has said.

Governor Ortom stated this while swearing in Lt. Col. Paul Iornenge Hemba (rtd) as his new  Special Adviser on Security Matters, said the recent insecurity has constituted huge clog in the wheel of progress in the state.

According to Governor Ortom, the investors who cited insecurity as reason for their withdrawal gave a condition that their return to the state will be when normalcy returns in the affected areas.

“Security is so important that wothout it, there is no meaningful develolment for us. We have faced serious setbacks since the recent security challenges in the state. All the investors who had intended to come here and do some investment have called to say that they will see how normalcy returns to Brnue state before they can come”.

It would be recalled that an investor who was mining in Torkula village, the country home of the late paramount ruler of Tiv nation, late HRM, Dr Alfred Akawe Torkula was killed during a recent attack.

Ortom said no meaningful person will want to bring his resources and risk himself in an environment that is not secure.

The Governor therefore charged the new adviser to use his wealth of experience to add value to the security situation in the state just as he advised him to seek clarifications on issues where necessary.

Ortom who urged him to synergize with the security agencies in the state for maximum security of lives and property  in the state also parted God to grant him wisdom, knowledge and understanding  to sucessfully pilot the security affairs of the State.

In his response, the new Special Adviser on Security Matters, Rtd Lt. Col. Christopher Hemba thanked Governor Ortom for considering him worthy to serve in his administration.

He said he was aware of the enormous  security challenges affecting the state and promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the job.
