Nigerian leader, President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday pledged to ensure the rescue of kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, urging the northeast Borno State to give him another chance as president.

Jonathan was in Maiduguri, Borno capital and epicentre of insurgency on Saturday for the presidential campaign ahead of February 14 election.

He said insurgency has kept many people away from Borno despite its huge landmass, the largest in African oil-rich nation and abundant mineral resources,

I promise that we must surely conqure Boko Haram in our second term. We must also ensure all the kidnapped people including the Chibok schoolgirls get back home. We must surely turn this state to a peace and loving place,” he told his party supporters at the rally held at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.

He said he will improve on agriculture and end Boko Haram in the area. He said his government will partner with the state government to recapture areas taken over by the insurgents, promising to rebuild destroyed communities and resettle the displaced persons.

He dismissed insinuation that he allowed insurgency to reign in the northeast for political reason, wondering while people would come up with such claim.

How can I do that,” he queried, adding “no president or leader anywhere in the world will do that.” He  assured to solve the insecurity challenge in the country if given the second chance to rule Nigeria.
