The Abia state chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged plans by its Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart to rig next Saturday’s Aba South State Constituency by-election for the Abia State House of Assembly.

In a petition titled; “Diabolical plans to manipulate the electoral process and influence the outcome of the Aba  South State Constituency August 16 by-election: Request to put in place measures to check these invidious plans” , and addressed to the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Umuahia, by the Abia State Chairman of APGA, Barr. Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu, the party alerted the Commission of alleged plan to influence the outcome of the poll.

“APGA’s position is that election must hold at the designated polling units, votes counted and result announced immediately.”

The petition further alleged that the PDP plans to import non residents of Aba South state constituency and aid them to vote with fake voter’s cards as well as not allow the counting and announcement of results at the polling units.

APGA warned that it will resist any attempt to manipulate the polls, stressing that it looks up to the electoral body to build on its commendable feats at the Ekiti and Osun governorship polls by ensuring a free and fair election on Saturday.
