Leaders of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Cultural group, Afenifere in Ekiti State have declared their support for Prince Dayo Adeyeye’s governorship ambition, saying: “Adeyeye is part of us and he is someone whose patriotism and ability to develop Ekiti State is not in doubt.”

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti today, and signed by Prince A. A. Alonge and Chief Femi Balogun; Chairman and Secretary of the group respectively, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and supporters in Ekiti State were
called upon to support Adeyeye.

The Afenifere leaders, who said they were ready to give whatever it takes to. secure the PDP governorship ticket for Adeyeye and make sure that he wins the June 21 governorship election, added that; “Adeyeye served Afenifere diligently as our spokesperson and now is the time to pay him back for his loyalty and selfless service to the Yoruba nation.

“Apart from being one of us, Adeyeye is no doubt the most credible, sellable, acceptable and determined among the PDP aspirants. He is a teacher, lawyer and Pro-Democracy activist. He was a member of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).

“When he was the Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), he demonstrated his commitment to the upliftment of education in Ekiti State, wining the Presidential Committee on Schools’ Debate award of the most Innovative SUBEB Chairman in Nigeria in 2009 and the best performing SUBEB Chairman in the South West.

“In all towns in Ekiti State, we can point to storey building classrooms built when Adeyeye was SUBEB chairman and it is on record that it was during his tenure that students of public schools in the State stopped bringing furniture to school from their homes.

“We have no doubt in our minds that Adeyeye will replicate the virtues of Afenifere and our late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo if elected as governor of Ekiti State.

“We therefore call on PDP leaders, especially President Goodluck Jonathan to give us Adeyeye as the party candidate, and we promise to mobilise maximum support for the PDP during June 21 election.”
