With much amount money purportedly spent by the Jigawa state government on the educational sector in the state, it appears to not be enough for the students at primary schools and junior secondary schools in the state capital. This is as information available to 247ureports.com reveals that a majority of the students receive lessons in classrooms on a bare floor.

It was gathered that student of junior secondary schools in Galamawa primary and secondary schools – as of this publication – were receiving lessons on a bare floor – without tables or chairs – even the teachers does not have any facilities to seat during the class session.

Our reporter who visited Galamawa, primary schools and junior secondary schools as well as Gadadin primary school and Baure junior secondary schools, and kaci junior primary school discovered that almost all the schools share of the same problems of limited learning facilities – such as table and chairs as well as unqualified teachers to teach in the schools.

247ureports.com contacted the Chairman of the teacher’s union in Dutse on the situation but he denied that students were without chairs and tables – he stated that “the state government is doing its best to supply the materials to schools”. He added that he does not know were the problems lies for the supply of furniture to the schools especially the Galamawa primary where he is currently serving as inspector.

Also in talking with the chairman of the basic education board [SUBEB] Jigawa state, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Gumel, he said he could not comment on the issue of furniture supply because it is beyond his power. He declined to disclose the name of the contractor and but assured that very soon the contractor will supply the furniture to short listed schools in the area which include all the schools visited by our reporter.

He explained further that the state government has earmark N90million naira which was approved by the state government in this year budget for the renovation of broken tables and chairs through mobile workshop that will handle the project in three senatorial areas in the state.

He added that each senatorial zone will receive N30million for the project and a committee will be established to supervise the project to ensure speedy completion of the projects. He assured that it will be through joint effort between the communities and state government that the state government will address the issues of lack of seating materials.
