It will be recalled that in the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, Boko Haram militants stormed the Federal Government College in Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA of Yobe State.
According to a senior medical source at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, Yobe State, so far the ambulances have brought 43 bodies to the morgue.
Military spokesman in Yobe State Eli Lazarus disclosed that at around 2 a.m., suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a students’ hostel at the Federal Government College, a school for students aged 11 to 18 in the town of Buni Yadi.
It was gathered that the assailants arrived in 6 Toyota Hilux pickup trucks and motorcycles.
“Some of the students bodies were burned to ashes,” said police commissioner Sanusi Rufai, adding 24 staff quarters, including the administrative block of the college and students’ hostel, were razed by the fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers started the operation at around midnight and continued until after 4 a.m. The students were both slaughtered and shot.
The military has already been dispatched to the area.
The latest attack is the fourth recorded on schools in Yobe State. GSS Damaturu, GSS Mamudo and College of Agriculture, Gujba were attacked last year.
Earlier  the authorites  of the Federal Government College, Buni-Yadi, in Yobe, on today confirmed the incidence.
In an interview with the newsmen in in the school Ibrahim Abdul, a Senior Master said that after the killing, all the hostels and classrooms were burnt by the insurgents who attacked the college at about 11.30 p.m.
The attackers, who were said to have arrived at the college in several vehicles, also burnt down 40 houses.
Ibrahim Abdul described the attack as inhuman and unfortunate. He called on security operatives to evolve more proactive and intelligence approach to curb the menace of the insurgents.
