Boko Haram Strikes Kano, Killing Two Igbo Business Men

The Kano Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya has confirmed to 247ureports.com that unknown gunmen believed to be members of the Jihadist group, the Boko Haram struck the Kurna Asabe area of Kano and shot dead two Igbo business man on Friday May 24, 2013 at about 7:30pm.

As gathered, the unknown gunmen were two in number – as they stormed an Electronics shop on Baban Layi, Kurna Asabe area of the city to shoot two businessmen – a Vulcanizer and an Electronics dealer. Both victims hailed from Nsukka, Enugu State and were identified as Ibe Ugwuanyi, 30 (Vulcanizer) and Eke Osita Joseph, an Electronics dealer, 35.

Ibe Ugwuanyi operates in vulcanizer business along Ibadan Road, Sabon Gari, Kano and Eke Osita Joseph operates an electronics shop along Baban Layi, Kurna Asabe. At the end of business activities on Friday May 24, 2013, Ibe Ugwuanyi, after closing shop opted to visit Eke Osita Joseph at his electronic shop to watch movies as he always does at the close of the day’s business.

With only minutes after Ibe Ugwuanyi had arrived, two gunmen dress in typical Muslim regalia stormed the shop and opened fire, killing the two men instantly. The gunmen escaped. Ibe was shot on the forehead, while Joseph was shot on the chest.

The remains of Ibe and Joseph were taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital from where they were later transferred to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

No arrest has been made thus far.

Relations and parents of the victims are making arrangements to covey the deceased to Nsukka, Enugu State for burial on Wednesday. The Vulcanizer’s father, Casmir Ugwu, confirmed that that their bodies would be conveyed to Ovoko, Nsukka, and Enugu on Wednesday for burial.
