My Administration Places Priority On Health—Gov. Orji

Abia state governor, Chief Theodore Orji says his administration places priority on the health of its residents.

The governor explained that this was the main reason why he has continued to invest in the provision of quality health infrastructure in the state.

Orji who sated this during the flag off of the first round of the 2013 Immunization Plus days in the state at Ikwuano local council Headquarters, Isiala Oboro, added that Abia is doing well in the fight against polio.

He expressed gratitude the health workers, traditional rulers, church and development partners for assisting the state government to rid the state of the disease.

According to him, the 90% immunization coverage recorded last year is encouraging and expressed hope that by the end of the year 2013, polio would have been driven out of the state.

The governor remarked that before now, polio has been devastating everywhere, but thanked that God the situation has been brought under control.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Okechukwu Ogar said the state government is committed to ensure that Abia is polio free. He disclosed that the state maintained immunization coverage of 90% in 2012 and appealed to the stakeholders that ensure that every child is immunized.
