A member of the House of Representatives, Taofeek Buraimo, on Tuesday, said President Goodluck Jonathan was misled by his aides on the proposed N5,000 currency.

Buraimo, representing Remo Federal Constituency on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, also declared that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Lamido Sanusi, were out of tune with the reality of the Nigerian economy.

Speaking with newsmen in Sagamu after a meeting with ACN leaders in the area on his proposed N250m constituency projects, Buraimo said Jonathan erred by allowing the CBN governor to mislead him into endorsing such “an economically unsound action.”

He said, “Honestly, the President just acted cowardly because everybody knew that we were talking about a cashless society and now, you were introducing the use of N5,000 notes, for what purpose?”

He noted that the understanding of the economy by the two top ranking officials of the Federal Government should be of a major concern to the citizenry.

The lawmaker said, “I always say that for the likes of Sanusi and Okonjo-Iweala; it’s not about where you have studied or that you have been at the World Bank. Nigeria is a different society; we need people that know what is wrong with their own people before they can be managed.”
