A middle aged woman, Mrs Onyime Ekannem, on Thursday pleaded with an Ojo Customary Court in Lagos to restrain her husband, Ini-Obong, from sending her back to their village for instituting a divorce suit against him.

“I brought my husband, a firefighter with the government to this court because he has become unfaithful to our marriage, he commits adultery without any remorse, and has no care for his family.

“He has even asked his office to eject me from the house in their official quarters, claiming that since I want to divorce him, I must leave his house,” she said.

According to her, the husband is insisting that since he married her properly from the village three years ago, he must take her back there if she insists on going ahead with the divorce case.

Ekannem told the court that she did not reply the husband, whom she described as a failed father and husband, and asked the court for protection.

In his response, the husband, insisted that he must return her back to the village where he paid her dowry and married her before bringing her to the city.

“Since she does not want to be my wife, she must go back to the village where I married her from,” Ini-Obong said.

The President of the court, Chief Joseph Ogunmola, advised the husband to take proper care of the two children, pay their schools fees and feeding allowance.

Ogunmola also directed him to provide an apartment for the wife if he insists on evicting her from his house.

He also directed the family of the woman to appear before the court to give consent on the proposal to return her to the village.

Ogunmola, adjourned the case to Aug. 3 for further hearing.
