Former Lagos State governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has faulted the action of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Joseph Mbu,  for taking command of election activities in the state, describing it as an action with an ulterior motive.
Describing the level of inconsistency in information flowing from the police as a cause for concern, Tinubu wondered why a Commissioner of Police in charge of a state can be relegated to the position of an area commander while an AIG takes over the role of a commissioner.
Speaking of his concern with journalists, after casting his vote at his Unit 047, Sunday Adigun Street, the former governor said, “The alarming issue about security is the inconsistency and lack of police reliability in the area of their posting.
“They announced one day last week that AIG has been reassigned, but yesterday we heard the news that the Commissioner of Police has more or less been relegated to an area Commander and the AIG is now a Commissioner of Police in charge of election, from that we smell a rat.
“That is not good enough for confidence building process, if there is no written order, no written instruction, it shouldn’t be possible for anybody, no matter how highly placed to come and make an all round posting of police,” he said.
Speaking on the election, Tinubu described the conduct of the election as much better that the previous one, adding, “The use of card reader was easier unlike the last time when I did it several times, but this time it was at the first that it accepted it, the organisation of the INEC staff this time is very commendable.
“The only thing we will be looking at in the future is something that will help INEC as an institution, perhaps to make the card reader and authentication process more dependable and easy to use very well, so that we can just get accredited and go straight to vote, so that we don’t have to lose time by telling people to go home and then return, it will also help the congestion that is going on in most places.”
Also speaking on the conduct of the election as went in his polling area after casting his vote, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji commended the conduct  of the electoral officer, describing it as commendable.
Ikuforiji who ascribed the better handling of the election by official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to perhaps a better understanding of the working tools, especially the card readers, however raised a concern over the low turnout of voters which was witnessed in many parts of the state.
According to him, the low turnout of voters, which he described as voter apathy may have negative impact on the electoral process if care is not taken, as unpopular candidates may end up being elected if the people will not come to elect candidates of their choice.
Also speaking, Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye also bemoaned the level of turnout of voters in the election, noting that it gives reason for concern.
Adeyeye who described the election as peaceful and orderly however said the low turn out in his Kola Adeyeye polling booth as in other areas of Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area was not unusual as the people may be more relaxed about the present election as against the previous one.
Agreeing with Adeyeye that the low turnout was not unexpected, former chairman of Ikosi LCDA, Kunle Soname, commended the INEC for an improved electoral process, describing the early arrival of election materials in his local government as an improvement on last week’s process when materials arrived late.
