The imbroglio surrounding the continued spat between the national assembly and the Nigerian Police Force appears to near an irreversible crescendo as the Nigerian police served what appears indirect invitation to the Senate President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Bukola Saraki over a supposed armed robbery incident in Kwara State. Information available to 247ureports.com reveals that the Senate have resolved to face the Nigerian Police squarely in a manner to “impress on the Inspector General Of Police” the National Assembly remains a potent arm of the government.

According to the source who spoke with our correspondent, the Senators have decided to hold a closed door meeting – which was held today [Monday]. The meeting discussed how to “handle the Inspector General’s excesses once and for all”.

The members of the Senator who attended the said meeting were reported to be unsettled by the increasing spat of prosecution by the Executive Branch of the government through the various branches of the Executives – such as the police, the anti-graft agencies and other units. They emphasized the need to face the police squarely with all the powers imbedded in the constitution.  Once of the Senators hinted on the issue of impeachment of the president not being out of the bag of options available to them.

But this is not to say that the Senator will disobey the Police in the same way the IGP disobeyed the National Assembly, No. We may all follow the Senate President to the FSARS office”.

247ureports.com learnt the Senate President is yet to be served a physical evidence or summon from the Nigerian Police requesting for his presence at the police station. But the Senators who are aware that the Police may move on the Senate President should he refuses to honor the supposed invite have adopted to pay a visit as a group to the police station. “The police never issued a direct invite to Senator Dino Melaye prior to moving on him to arrest and embarrass him. They can do the same our Senate President”.

The senate source pointed to the effort by the Senators in reaching President Muhammadu Buhari over persistent police persecution of members of the National Assembly. The President promised “he will look into the complaints. But till date, he has done nothing”.

The Senate may consider a total and complete reform of the police says the senator who also acknowledged that the President will likely not sign the Police Reform Bill when presented to his desk. But “that will not stop us”.  He indicated that decentralization of the police would be a likely options available to the lawmakers to ensure the ongoing abuse by the IGP is checkmated in the future.

It is uncertain what measures the Senators but it is certain the Senators have “had it”.
