Civil servants in Delta who were sacked by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have regrouped with a vow to unsettle Okowa’s government, give him sleepless night if he fails to reverse the decision, sacking them from the state civil service.

Not less than 2000 civil servants, who were employed by the former governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in the 11th hour of the expiration of his government, were sacked by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, few days after resuming office as governor.

Okowa cited various degrees of irregularities that characterized the recruitment as reasons for the outright sack of the staff who had resumed office, believing that they had got civil service jobs with Delta State government.

But the civil servants, who have continued to haunt Okowa’s administration, Monday, insisted that they passed through due process of application and passed the recruitment interview before they got the jobs, hence they view the action of Okowa as a great disservice from a governor who promised prosperity for all Deltans.

The civil servants, who constituted a group, The Congress of Newly Employed Civil Servants, in Delta State, Monday, vowed never to give peace to Okowa until the directive sacking them was reversed.

In a statement issued by their Chairman, Mr. Regha Obus, secretary, Mr Agba Okeme and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Henry Nwokolo, the sacked workers said; “we are Deltans, we passed through all the  necessary stages for the employment.

“The commission advertised; we applied; we were shortlisted for interview, which we passed and appointment letters were given, which we graciously accepted with the intention of serving our state.

“Most of us resigned from our previous jobs to accept the civil service offer. Those who bought their slots and the sellers should be exposed if the government is not corrupt and those of us who are Deltans should be allowed to go back to work”, they decried.

The statement said; “injecting fresh blood who are Deltans by origin into the Civil Service is not only necessary but a means of tackling unemployment in the state. We discovered that since 2010 till our recruitment in April 20th 2015 there had been vacuum in the service and this is a generational gap which is against the Civil Service rule. About 3,000 workers had retired while about 1,000 had died.

“We equally call on Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to please borrow a leaf from his counterpart, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai who, within 30days of assumption of office, has been able to articulate his various point of agenda for his people without a single suspension or sacking of workers in his state, without minding the huge financial debt left behind by his predecessor.

“We the Congress of Newly employed Civil Servants of Delta State hereby appeal to the governor to reverse his suspension decision on our employment and come out clear with his political agenda for the state
