From Duke C. Duke, Owerri

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State narrowly escaped being booed yesterday at the APC South East zonal meeting held at Sylvia Hotel, Independent Layout, Enugu. The governor who put a last minute frantic call across the APC Vice Chairman in charge of South East, Chief Emma Eneukwu, that he won’t be at the meeting again, allegedly got fillers from the meeting ground that there were obvious disaffections against him from the party faithfuls. It was gathered that the disaffections were due to his numerous anti-people’s policies in his state which seem to have portrayed the party in bad light in the state.

While recognising the dignitaries at the stakeholders’ meeting, the zonal leader, Chief Emma Eneukwu, told the participants that Okorocha called to inform that he would not be part of the meeting again. There was a sharp murmuring from the background signaling that “it was even better that he didn’t come”. Further investigation revealed that governor Okorocha in his characteristic bossing nature had initially commanded the organisers to postpone the meeting but it was turned down. It is in record that Gov. Rochas also tried the same thing during the March 17, 2018 State APC NEC meeting held at Concord Hotel Owerri where the governor allegedly ordered the state chairman, Chief Hillary Ekeh, to move the meeting venue to Government House which the chairman turned down.

Analysts at the Enugu zonal meeting observed that Rochas is helplessly evading party meetings at state and zonal levels because he has lost grip on the party at those levels, and he is only struggling to maintain relevance at the the federal level. They observed that, with the governor’s leadership style, he is only trying to destroy the party’s image in the zone, and noted that party leaders from the zone must come together to stop him, in order to further boost the party’s image among the Igbos.

Dignitaries at the zonal meeting were: Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr. Chris Ngige, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Chief Emma Eneukwu, His Excellency Jim Nwobodo, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, Senator Osita Izunaso, Andy Ubah, and Prince Eze Madumere.

Others include, Hon. Matthew Omegara, Chief George Morghalu, Sir Jude Ejiogu, Chief TEO Ekechi, Senator Agboti, Dr. Uche Ogah, Senator Chris Nwankwo, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, Rt. Hon. Odoemena, and many others.
