The apex Igbo socio political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has set up a committee to launch an ongoing secretariat which Imo state governor, Owelle Rocahs Okorocha is building for the group in Enugu.
247ureports.com gathered that the committee headed by the Secretary General, Dr. Joe Nworgu had approached Governor Okorocha with a budget of N40 million for the ceremony.
Unknown to Okorocah who sponsors Ohanaeze with a monthly million Naira operating cost, the expected commissioning of the yet to be completed secretariat is one of the plots by the President General, Chief Enwo Igariwe and Nworgu, to ‘cover up their tracks’ since they assumed leadership of the organization on January 12, 2013.
Igariwe had in the last two weeks embarked on consultations with some South East governors including Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and other opinion leaders seeking support for an alleged tenure elongation project. The Ohanaeze President General is also alleged to be selling his preferred successor in the event the elongation project which is being trailed by severe opposition, does not work.
It was learnt that Igariwe’s associates and Ndigbo in Lagos have raised N53 million to help him impose a successor as President General. Among names said to have been considered as successor by Igariwe’s successor include ex Information minister ,Nnia Nwodo and former Naval chief, Allison Madueke, husband to immediate past oil minister, Deziani.
According to a member of the Ime Obi which is the highest decision making body of the organization, the EFCC should arrest Igariwe to explain how he shared N5 billion from ex President Jonathan in Pius Anyim’s house. Igariwe must also account for the N25 million he received from Anambra governor, Willie Obiano to host the 2014 Igbo Day celebration. Apart from the N1 million Okorocha gives them monthly, Igariwe and Nworgu have been getting money from other South East governors and hiding it from the Ime Obi. These are the reasons why he is trying to commission the uncompleted secretariat and get stakeholders to elongate his tenure or plant a successor, but he won’t succeed. Igariwe and Nworgu have created serious problems for Ohnaeze and should give way on January 12, 2016.”
