Information reaching 247ureports.com revealed that the British lady, Miss Nora Mankel who was kidnapped in Umunkiri community of Obingwa local council of Abia state has been freed, more than one month after she was seized by her abductors.

According to a family source, “Nora has been released. As I’m talking to you, she is on her way to Lagos.”

Asked if a ransom was paid, the family source said, “The most important thing is that she has been freed.”

Several publications had in the wake of the incident, reported that Miss Mankel died in the hands of her abductors. Enquiries within the security sources on the state of the Briton also failed to yield positive results.

Mankel, whose mother hails from the Umunkiri Comminity and was married to a Briton where she (Nora) was born, was reported to have visited her mother’s home town during the Easter holidays as she had always done, when she was kidnapped.

It would be recalled that Nora, on the day she was kidnapped had gone to Aba town in the company of his fiancée who allegedly hails from Mbaise in Imo state, to buy some items she intended going back with to her base in Britain.

As they were said to be coming home after shopping late in the evening, on approaching the main gate to her grandparent’s house at Umunkiri community in a red Toyota Avensis car, the hoodlums who were said to be lurking around for them, opened fire on sighting the vehicle.

The shooting was said to have lasted for several minutes and later died down but due to the fact the car was bullet proof, none of the occupants was hit by any bullet, but the vehicle was demobilized as the four tyres were punctured by the gunmen.

247ureports.com learnt that after about 30 minutes, hoping that the hoodlums had escaped, Nora’s fiancée opened the driver’s door of the car and the hoodlums who pretended to have gone, opened fire again, killing him instantly before abducting the lady to an unknown destination.

When contacted, Abia state commissioner of Police, Usman Tilli Abubakar said he was unaware of the release of the Briton and promised to get back to our correspondent.
