Worried by his dismal performance in education, Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu,on Tuesday had a spat with discussants on a television programme in Aba over the dilapidated condition of schools in the state.

The discussants who appeared on MCL TV’s assessment of Ikpeazu’s one anniversary were reacting to footages of school children studying under trees and dilapidated buildings and submitted that the government has been paying lip service to the funding of education.

As the discussions went on, there were many telephone calls from anxious residents who expressed sadness at the poor state of school infrastructure and blamed the government for the situation for only being interested in collecting taxes and levies from private school proprietors.

Piqued by the exposition of the rot in the education system under his administration, Ikpeazu who may have been alerted to the live tv programme, immediately called in, and challenged the discussants to stop embarrassing him

He argued that that the footages shown in the programme did not emanate from any school in the state.

According to one of the callers in the programme, “The Okezie Ikpeazu administration has done nothing in education; look at the state of schools. Students now learn under trees and dilapidated infrastructure. Salaries are not being paid to teachers. They are only interested in ripping off private school owners. People no longer send their children to public schools where teachers are frequently on strike. The governor has failed Abians.”

At the end of the programme, the governor was said to have called one of the discussants enquiring where the schools with dilapidated infrastructure are located.

247ureports.com gathered that the cable tv station, MCL TV, is set to cover all sectors in their assessment of the governor’s one year administration; a situation which is said to be troubling Ikpeazu with the huge number of abandoned road projects in Abia state.
