Gov. Ganduje Flags-Off Construction Of 462 Boreholes In Kano

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state on Saturday, in Tsauni, Tsanyawa local government area, flagged off the construction of 462 hand pump boreholes and repairs of 500 malfunctioning ones across the state.

Speaking during the event, which is part of activities marking the first year anniversary of his administration, governor Ganduje explained that the move is part of strategies of his government for efficient water resources management.

“We understand that we have problem in the area of water supply for our villages and hard-to-reach communities. That is why we are spending money to facilitate water for our people in view of its importance to health, sanitation and general well being”, the governor stated.

Governor Ganduje added that a detailed statics of existing boreholes was taken and 2, 600 such facilities were found to have broken down across the state, assuring that all of them would be renovated in phases in view of their importance.

 

He disclosed that efforts are on to renovate and up-grade some regional water supply schemes in the state to ease the suffering being faced by the people and to prevent them from drinking unhygienic stream water.

The governor also announced his administration’s plans to renovate and reconstruct some rural roads to enable peasant farmers take their produce to markets and to open up more communities for sustainable economic endeavors.

Turning to Tsanyawa local government area in particular, the governor announced that the local government’s main clinic would be renovated and equipped for better service delivery.

The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Usman Sule Riruwai explained that the government is spending N345 million to construct the new boreholes adding that the Ministry is committed to ensuring sustainable waters supply in the state.

On his part, the member representing Tsanyawa constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Sani Bala urged the state government to upgrade Tsanyawa Clinic and to construct more feeder roads in the domain.

Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje made a brief stopover at Danzabuwa, Bichi local government where he assured the people that three bore holes would be construct in the town pending arrangement to supply them with tap water from Bagwai Water treatment plant.
